Victorian Roller Derby League
Published 1 year, 3 months ago in Sport & Leisure.Roller Derby in Australia is back in a big way, already winning fans across America as leagues spring up like crazy to embrace this new, all women, full contact sport.
Currently we’re recruiting all girls 18+ with an interest in skating, dressing up, socialising and not afraid to fall over or be pushed around. No need to be fit, we work with everyone to build you up to competition level. It is a big commitment as we expect 2 training sessions a week and committee membership as we build the league’s foundations. Say ‘goodbye’ to your partners and kids, Roller Derby will take over your life!
We’re very safe (knee, elbow and wrist guards, helmets, mouthguards, falling drills) and it’s a lot of fun. You won’t even think of it as exercise (except for those 20 minute endurance skates) but in time you will tone up.

Is there any weight restriction? I know a 130k mother-in-law and her 120k daughter I’d like to enrol.
I remember watching roller derby on Tv as a kid. It came across as a bit crazy and violent. Which is probably quite fun, if you’re into that sort of thing. Good luck with your recruitment drive.
cant wait to tkae the kids to this - where is it on please
We’re hoping to start our first season by Feb 2008. We have many months of training and organising to go before we head out onto the track in front of fans. If we host an exhibition bout, we’ll be advertising for sure.
Weight is not an issue. Big girls are just as valuable on a team as the smaller, faster ones. It takes all sorts to create a winning team.
I recently moved to Australia from California, where I was a member of the SONOMA COUNTY ROLLER DERBY. It is the most fun you will ever have, the best exercise you will ever get ,and the best friends you will ever make! It is addictive! Unfortunately there are no teams anywhere near where I live, near Cairns. Hope to here from you guys!
You can always start your own league or travel team. Are there any rinks up north?
